
Your Pittsburgh weekend guide to family events, March 21-23

Has spring officially sprung in Pittsburgh? Recent sunny weather has families racing to spend time outside, and we’ve got lots of events designed to take advantage of nice weather. It’s also a great time of year to take in a play, swing by a local fish fry, or visit one of the city’s top playgrounds.

Wednesday, March 19 through Saturday, March 22: Just Between Friends Consignment Sale
This weekend at the AHN Montour Sports Complex, come score amazing deals on used kids’ clothing, toys, books and more. The fun includes an Easter Egg-Stravaganza on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with an egg hunt, face painting, balloon art and visits with the big bunny himself. Find details about the sale here. Thursday, March 20: Free Admission to the Children’s Museum for Fred Roger’s birthday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
To celebrate the birth of local hero Mister Rogers, the museum will offer free admission all day this Thursday. The Kindness Gallery will encourage visitors to practice ways to be kind and learn to recognize simple everyday acts of kindness. Original Puppets from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood including King Friday XIII, Queen Sara Saturday, Henrietta Pussycat, X the Owl, Lady Elaine Fairchilde, Daniel Striped Tiger and Gran Pere will greet visitors as they enter the nursery space. And “Mister Rogers: Just The Way You Are” offers an interactive portrait experience by artist Wayne Brezinka that can be found in the Buhl Hallway. Among the items used to create the portrait are a handwritten note from Fred Rogers, eyeglasses and bow ties he wore, and childhood photos. Join the fun for free and explore the museum on Thursday!

Friday, March 21: Intro to DJing with Tech 25 at CLP, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Have a teen that is interested in the tech behind the art of DJing? This workshop at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Brookline location is the perfect chance to explore and learn. The free session lets teens get their hands on Pioneer Rev-1 controllers and learn the history of DJing, song structure, basic FX and transitions. Find more info here.
Saturday, March 22: Little Kids Dance Fusion at Los Sabrosos, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Little Kids Dance Fusion is designed for kids between the ages of 3 and 6. This fun, friendly, and inspirational dance class is designed to help kids feel beautiful, find their rhythm, work together and learn the basics of several forms of dance. Classes are drop-in, though there is a discount for signing up for a series of classes. The cost begins at $20. Find more details here.
Saturday, March 22: NatureFest at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This event, which is included with admission, is the perfect way to explore the resources at the museum. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s scientists, educators and community partners can’t wait to teach families all about science. Browse the full schedule here and plan your day. Whether you’re looking for family-friendly fun or a deep dive into land stewardship and invasive species research, there’s programming for nature lovers of all ages. Saturday, March 22: WQED “Be My Neighbor Day” at Focus on Renewal, 11 a.m to 1 p.m.
Focus on Renewal, located in McKees Rocks, is excited to host WQED’s Be My Neighbor Day this year at the Father Ryan Arts Center and the McKees Rocks Borough Council for a fun-filled day celebrating kindness and discovering what it means to be a caring neighbor. Saturday, March 22: Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium presents Wonders of Wildlife at CLP, 3 p.m.
Discover fur, feathers and scales in this introduction to some of the world’s most fascinating animals. Using live animals from the zoo, families will explore the physical characteristics of each animal while learning how they are uniquely adapted to their environments. Sunday, March 23: Princess Breakfast with Snow White, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Have a kiddo who is excited about the new “Snow White” movie? Come join Snow White herself for a delicious brunch at Eliza Hot Metal Bistro this weekend. Enjoy a meal while chatting with Snow White and taking photos. Participants will receive a gift bag as well. Tickets are $50. Register here.

Sunday, March 23: Puzzle Swap at Avalon Public Library, 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Love puzzles, but looking for some new ones? Bring along your puzzles to share with other families. Each puzzle is worth one ticket, and that ticket is used to obtain a new puzzle. The cost is $5. Find more details here.
Sunday, March 23: I AM WILD with the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium at the Children’s Museum, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
This event is a great chance to meet live animals who are visiting the museum from the zoo. Learn all about habitats and the lives of these animals while exploring the new exhibit, I AM WILD. This event is included with museum admission. Find more details here.
