Saturday, Jan. 29: Intro to Snowshoeing, Boyce Park
7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m.
Allegheny County offers free Intro to Snowshoeing sessions for ages 5 and older this Saturday, Jan. 29 and also next month on Feb. 12, 18 and 23. Park rangers will teach the beginner course at Boyce Park. With the snowmaking equipment, there are no worries about the weather. Registration is free but required. Watch for additional classes and outings to be posted on the county website.
Saturday, Jan. 29 and Sunday, Jan. 30: Tough Art Workshops at MuseumLab
Noon-2 p.m. and 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
Tough @ Home Artists will share their hands-on art-making projects live with visitors at the MuseumLab’s Studio Lab. At these drop-in workshops, visitors can come and go at their leisure. First up at noon is Sidney Mullis, a sculptor who is building a make-believe forest to re-center play and imagination. Next up at 2 p.m. is Lauren Braun, a Pittsburgh-based artist who explores themes of transformation, adaptation and meditation. The workshops are $5 per participant and include MuseumLab admission.
Saturday, Jan. 29: Owl Prowl, North Park
1 p.m. – 3 p..m.
Explore the after-dark world of owls in Allegheny County parks. Park rangers lead the way along 3-mile trails in search of these fascinating birds. All-ages Owl Prowl events are on the calendar for this Saturday, Jan. 29 (and also Feb. 4) at North Park, plus Feb. 5 at Hartwood Acres and Feb. 12 and 13 at White Oak Park. Registration is $6. Registration is free.
Saturday, Jan. 29: Groundhog Hike, Moraine State Park
1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Celebrate our favorite rodent this Saturday at Moraine State Park for a fun hike that highlights groundhog trivia. Choose your trail difficulty and length. Dress for the weather and bring water and trail snacks. This event is free, but reservations are required.
Sunday, Jan. 30: My Name is NOT Mom at the Byham Theater
2 p.m.
This comic mommy trio is taking their show off-line and on the road. After helping millions of fans navigate the pandemic, internet sensations Tiffany Jenkins, Meredith Masony and Dena Blizzard are bringing their blend of stand-up, stories, videos and theater pieces and audience interaction to the Cultural District. From sleepless nights with toddlers to middle school mayhem to literally trying to not attack a teenager — the show is a “hilarious journey through motherhood.” Buy tickets.
