In this season of giving thanks and caring for others, the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is a favorite tradition. You can help local families by dropping off new or gently-used sweaters in all sizes this year from Nov. 14 through Dec. 20.
Sweaters are accepted at collection bins located outside the Children’s Museum’s front entrance each day from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. and can be made by driving up to the front circle without paying for parking.
To make donating even easier, the museum is partnering with the Oaklander Hotel, Yoga Six South Hills, Club Pilates South Hills and Stretchlab Mt. Lebanon. These locations will have sweater collection bins, as well.
Want to give or receive sweaters? Local schools, organizations and families are encouraged to get involved by collecting sweaters and bringing them to the museum. Click here to find all the necessary materials. And to receive sweaters, please contact the Museum at hi@pittsburghkids.org.
The annual event has helped to provide more than 47,000 sweaters to children and families across the tri-state area for the last 25 years. The Children’s Museum’s goal for the 25th anniversary is to exceed 50,000 sweaters collected and donated.
Don’t miss the kickoff celebration: To honor the 25th anniversary of the Sweater Drive, Miss Elaina from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood will visit the Museum on Thursday, Nov. 14. Visitors can meet and take pictures with Miss Elaina at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in the café (included with museum admission).
“Celebrating 25 years of the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive is a special moment for us,” said Jane Werner, Executive Director of Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. “It’s been incredibly rewarding to see how this initiative has grown and continues to bring warmth and kindness to those who need it most.”
