10 great events for a weekend full of family fun in the Pittsburgh area! Check out this lineup.

If a snowy, chilly week has left your crew with too much energy, there are lots of events this weekend to get out and enjoy. We’ve got a guide to outdoor fun around the region as well as a roundup of January events if you missed them. We’ve also updated our indoor pool guide, which includes several options for swim time this weekend.  For this weekend, here are some of the top family activities in and around Pittsburgh:

Friday, Jan. 10: Dew After Dark at Seven Springs, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

What’s better than night skiing with older kids? Skiing with an extra jolt of energy. Seven Springs is hosting Dew After Dark from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Jan. 10 (and also Jan. 25, Feb. 7, and Feb. 28) with free Mountain Dew for skiers, a DJ, and other entertainment, as well as a chance to win some prizes. This event is free, though a lift ticket is required to ski, snowboard or tube. Check out the details here.

Saturday, Jan. 11: Trivia for Kids Live Podcast at the Greer Cabaret Theater, 11 a.m. 

This top podcast is hitting the road this winter as Kacie and the crew stop by Bellevue Elementary and then the Greer Cabaret for some local fun! This family-focused, fan-favorite podcast takes the fun on the road with a live, interactive show. Your kids can test their knowledge with quizzes on family-friendly topics. Admission is $20. Saturday, Jan. 11: Make 3D Snowflakes at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Join local young crafters Harshitha and Saanvi for this free hands-on workshop where kids ages 10 and up will learn to create their own beautiful, 3-D paper snowflake decorations. These snowflakes are simple to make, but bring an elegant touch to your winter decor. Teens and adults are also welcome in this class. Spots are limited, so sign up here.

Saturday, Jan. 11: Create & Learn with Center for Creative Reuse at CLP, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Flex your creativity and resourcefulness with Creative Reuse at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Woods Run location. Explore an array of unique reused materials and learn how to create beautiful works of art, craft projects, and anything you can dream up while saving useful materials from the landfill. This event is free, and is best suited to kids in grade school. Find more info here.

Saturday, Jan. 11: Space Chips Die Cut How-To at CLP, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

This free creative workshop is designed for kids in grade school, and will take place at the main branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. What is Space Chips Die Cut? It’s a simple make-and-take system of slot-together, flat pieces of up-cycled die-cut cardboard triangles, squares, and pentagons with equal-length length slots around their perimeter that connect with each other and can be used for creating. Saturday, Jan. 11: Penny Arcade Kids Comedy Show, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. 

Arcade Comedy Theater presents Penny Arcade, an interactive comedy experience ideal for kids 4 to 8 years old, though all ages are welcome. This 45-minute show encourages children and their parents to unleash their imaginations and sense of humor. Penny Arcade fosters collaboration, listening skills, and silliness for everyone at any age through a hands-on approach to theater. Tickets are $12 and more information can be found here.

Saturday, Jan. 11: Pokemon Party at Robinson Township Library, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Got a kid who loves to catch em’ all? Join librarians and fellow fans for a Pokemon party! Play games, trade cards, and level up your skills at this free event. Find more details here. No registration is required.

Saturday, Jan. 11: Owl Prowl at Round Hill Park, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Come explore the wonderful world of owls and learn from the expert park rangers who will guide this activity. This hike will be approximately 1.5 miles with moderate elevation changes, so participants should bring water and wear closed-toe shoes. Flashlights will be provided. This hike will meet at the Round Hill Park Harmony House Shelter Trailhead (located at coordinates 40.25163, -79.85236). This event is free. Registration is required, and these events often fill up.

Saturday, Jan. 11 and Sunday, Jan. 12: Junior Conductor Days at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

During this event, young visitors will have the chance to learn all about trolleys and the people who operate them. Listen to a story about trolleys and other things that move. Kids can make their own conductor hat during a special craft time, discover the hand and bell signals trolley conductors use to communicate with each other, and enjoy a special photo opportunity in the trolley’s operator seat. This event is included with general admission. No advanced purchasing of tickets is required. A story time will be offered at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. This event is open to all ages but perfect for kids ages 4-10. Find more info here. Sunday, Jan 12: Sensory Friendly Engineering Design Lab at MuseumLab, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 

If you haven’t checked out MuseumLab at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, it’s a space designed just for adolescents. Neurodivergent youth ages 8-12 and their families are invited to join museum staff this weekend for a free sensory-friendly morning at MuseumLab. Try out hands-on engineering and design activities designed with neurodivergent learners in mind and explore interactive museum exhibits before they open to the general public.
