Children’s Museum has a new schedule for September and beyond: Details here.
The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is one of the best places for families to visit (it’s one of several North Side gems) and they’re busy preparing for some cool new exhibits.
For the moment (Sept. 2 through Sept. 12), the museum is closed for their annual deep cleaning and the installation and repair of exhibits. It will reopen on Sept. 13 and be open seven days a week from Sept. 13 through Oct. 1.
Beginning Sept. 13, visitors can explore a new exhibit called “Spontaneous Order – The Rhythm of the Fireflies,” an immersive installation that explores the experience of watching fireflies in nature. And in January, the Museum will host the grand opening of a brand-new experience called I AM WILD, a Charley Harper exhibit.
Once it reopens, the weekday schedule will be slightly different from past years. Beginning on Oct. 2, the museum will be closed to the public on Wednesdays, outside of its peak visitor seasons. So please be sure to check the website for the latest operating hours before visiting. They do plan to open seven days a week during the busy holiday and summer seasons.
“By adjusting the schedule on Wednesdays, for just about half of the year, we’ll be able to better serve the visitors, invest more time in the exhibits and experiences, and continue to provide joy, creativity, curiosity and kindness to all learners,” says Max Pipman, senior director of communications for the museum.
Open hours at the Children’s Museum will continue to be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some exceptions for early opens. And all current memberships will be extended by a month at no additional cost.
MuseumLab will be open on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., with a seven-day-a-week schedule during busy times. The schools, partners, rentals, and other events and programs at the Museum will not be impacted by the change in hours.
