Several years ago, researchers at the Global Family Research Project (GFRP) studied the impact of Remake Learning Days events on learners in the Pittsburgh region. They wanted to know how the experience of doing fun, interactive learning alongside parents and caregivers affected kids.
Their data suggested that when grownups and kids engage in STEAM learning together, that makes students more likely to succeed academically, more likely to take advanced STEAM courses at school, and more likely to pursue STEAM-related careers. This shared learning can happen anywhere — at home, in libraries or museums, or anywhere in a community.
This summer, families will have three fun opportunities — on June 28, July 26, and August 23 — to share in STEAM learning together at the Carnegie Science Center during the upcoming Kids vs. Adults Science Challenge. These three evening events (running 6 pm. to 9 p.m., recommended for ages 5 and older) let parents and kids bring out their competitive side, while learning a little science along the way.
Grownups and kids will compete in a range of interactive science challenges. These include designing and building creative contraptions, solving brain-teasing puzzles, and using observation skills during a high-energy scavenger hunt.
For Carnegie Science Center members, tickets cost $10 per adult and $6 per child. For nonmembers, tickets are $20 per adult and $12 child. Kidsburgh is giving away a set of four tickets for each date. Click here to enter to win tickets.
