Don’t miss these 11 kid-friendly Pittsburgh events in August
Summer’s not over yet. There is plenty of time to enjoy all the cool events coming up in August.
Teens will want to catch the PhenomeCON Teen Pop Culture Convention sponsored by Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. Fans can share their favorite movies, TV shows, and comic books in a day of gaming, crafting and cosplay costume-making.
Things really heat up at Play by the Fire at the Pittsburgh Glass Center. Kids from age 13 to 18 can dive into activities coordinated by arts organizations such as Assemble, Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, and The Andy Warhol Museum. Fire grilled and baked foods — furnace-fired pizzas and s’mores — are part of the fun.
Smaller kids will make a splash at the EQT Water Week at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Many forms of water play include watercolor painting, frozen water, and fabric dying. Sample fruit- and herb-infused water or learn how to make a water filter from recycled materials.
All ages of ice cream lovers can head to the DreamOn Music and Ice Cream Festival in Market Square. The weekend offers free entertainment by 15 bands and the chance to sample 15 different ice cream flavors.
But that’s just a teasing sampler of what’s happening in August. Head to NEXTPittsburgh to get the full lineup.
