My Favorite Pittsburgh Thing To Do With Kids: Scott Blasey
Scott Blasey, lead singer/songwriter for rock band The Clarks, enjoys the simple things in life.
He and his wife, Denise Blasey, vice president of global accounts for Integer, a medical device manufacturer, live in Peters Township with their three children, Sofia, 12; Ava, 10; and Gracelyn, 7.
Their favorite Pittsburgh activity is one that’s open to all, at no cost.
“We take them to the Water Steps on the North Shore,” Blasey says. “We love to go to Pirates games in the summer and after the game we play in the Water Steps. They’re free, they’re fun, and they’re awesome!
“The girls love splashing around on the steps. They meet and make friends with kids from all backgrounds. We take pictures with the beautiful Pittsburgh skyline in the background.”
It’s an activity that fits with his philosophy of simplicity and togetherness.
“There is no more valuable thing you can do or give to your children than your time and attention,” he says. “They don’t need lots of toys or the latest electronics –, although they love those things, too. They just need you to be there, to be an active, daily participant in their lives. They grow up so fast that if you keep putting it off for what you think are more important things, then it’ll be too late and you’ll miss your only chance to have a meaningful impact on their lives.”
