Top 17 February events: Stay warm and keep kids busy with these local family-friendly activities

February in Pittsburgh is infamously cold and snowy. On the bright side, the month is packed with so many events, shows and family activities. It’s also time for Lunar New Year celebrations (check out our guide right here) and Black History Month, so there are plenty of ways to enrich your family’s knowledge and celebrate all month long.

Check out some of February’s top family events:

Feb. 1: Black History Month Art Crawl at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh

Local contemporary Black artists and local figures will be stationed throughout the museum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to share about the important work and contributions of Black Pittsburghers. Find more information here.

Feb. 7 and Feb. 28: Dew After Dark at Seven Springs

What’s better than night skiing? Skiing with an extra jolt of energy. Seven Springs is hosting Dew After Dark from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on  Feb. 7 and Feb. 28 with free Mountain Dew for skiers, a DJ, and other entertainment, as well as a chance to win some prizes. This event is free, though a lift ticket is required to ski, snowboard or tube. Check out the details here.

Feb. 8: I Made It! Mine Valentine’s Market

Come out to the Block at Northway for I Made It! Market’s annual Valentine’s event. Find locally-made goods from dozens of local artisans to delight your little sweeties this year. This event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Find more details about participating as a vendor or attending as a shopper right here.

Feb. 8: Winterfest 2025 at Moraine State Park

Explore the park’s many activities and breathtaking sights during the heart of winter. Many animals are more active in the winter, and it’s a great way to explore this state park through a fresh lens. Guests will find food and craft vendors, too. Admission is free. Details here.

Feb. 8: Family Valentine’s Dance Party with City Squeakers

Come join City Squeakers for a night filled with fun and dancing. Grab your loved ones and put on your best attire (or your PJs, so you can dance ’til bedtime!) for a special evening of music and laughter. The party includes dancing with a DJ, complimentary soft drinks and desserts, an art corner, City Squeakers’ activities and a family photo station from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Find all the details here.

Feb. 9: “Our Own Work, Our Own Way: Southern Modern Women Artists” at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art

This exhibit, which opens on Feb. 9 and runs through May 18, focuses on the art of women in the South and how their work has been influential. This exhibit is part of a year-long focus at the museum on women and art. This museum has interactive and hands-on activities for children, as well. Find more info here.

Feb. 9:  Super Roll Sunday at Velum Fermentation

From 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. families are invited to this all-ages skate session during the big game. While parents watch, kids can skate around the concrete floor. Some skates are available to borrow, but you can also bring your own. Adults are $10 and kids are $5. Food trucks will be on site, too. Find details here.

Feb. 14 – Feb. 17: Pittsburgh Auto Show

Whether you’ve got a kid who’s a gearhead or you’re just looking to check out a new activity, the Pittsburgh Auto Show at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center is a great spot to get out of the cold and explore. With balloon artists, demonstrations, face painting and a kids’ activity area sponsored by CCAC, there is a ton happening during the auto show. Tickets range from $7 to $12, with Monday being half-priced.

Feb. 15 – Feb. 16: Teddy Bear Trolley at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum

Kids can bring their favorite teddy (or any stuffie) for a day of activities that are included with general admission. Admission is free for everyone under 18 for the month of February, and no advanced tickets are needed. Visitors are welcome to wear their pajamas (shoes are required). There will also be a story time from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Find more info here.

Feb. 15: Monster Jam at PPG Paints

Are you ready for crushing, tearing, and crashing? It’s time to cover that ice with some dirt and bring in the monster trucks. Monster Jam is in town for a 7 p.m. show. Tickets begin at just $18.

Feb. 16: Lunar New Year Parade on Murray Avenue

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with a parade featuring multiple Asian American groups from around the city sharing their heritage and culture. This parade will begin at Murray and Phillips and end at Darlington. The parade runs from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Get all the info here.

Feb. 17: Vintage Max Kids Maker Series: Air Dry Clay Critters

No school? No problem. Vintage Max Mercantile in Bellevue is hosting a maker event (parents can drop off or stay) and a pizza party. This event is open to attendees under the age of 14, but is geared towards early elementary-aged children. The cost per child is $30 and the event runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Purchase tickets here.

Feb. 22: Sensory-Friendly Screening of “Paddington in Peru” at the Lindsay Theater

Paddington is back with new zany adventures, and this inclusive event at The Lindsay is the perfect way for individuals with sensory processing needs to enjoy the show. At 10 a.m., this showing of the movie will feature reduced volume and leave some lights on for comfort. Guests are welcome to move around the theater or go into the lobby for a break, if needed. It’s also a great setting for a child’s first movie theater experience. Find more info here.

Feb. 27 – March 2: “The SpongeBob Musical” Youth Edition, Gargaro Theater

When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. Pittsburgh Musical Theater presents this Young Artist production. Tickets go on sale on Feb. 4.

Feb. 28 – March 2: Pixar in Concert with the PSO

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra leads the audience through the enchanting world of Pixar magic as they perform iconic songs from “Toy Story,” “Coco,” “Ratatouille,” “Cars,” and many more. This show combines live music with imagery from Pixar to celebrate some of our favorite movies. Tickets begin at $25 and can be found here.

Feb. 28 – March 2: Jurassic Quest, David Lawrence Convention Center.

This dinosaur adventure features dozens of life-size animatronic dinosaurs. Kids can ride a dinosaur, dig for fossils, meet baby dinos and create dino crafts. Timed tickets are $33-$36.

Feb. 28 – March 9: “I Never Saw Another Butterfly and The Terezin Promise,” The New Hazlett Center for Performing Arts

In the Terezin concentration camp, Austrian artist Friedl Dicker-Brandeis teaches Jewish children to make poems and drawings in secret art classes. Witness her passion, the children’s creativity, and the irrepressible power of art to bring hope and healing into the darkest hours of the Holocaust when you see this powerful show. Tickets are $39, $19 for students. The Feb. 28 preview is pay what you can. An afternoon sensory-friendly performance will be held on March 1.
