Introduce your child to a lifelong love of music
What kind of ambassador is seven feet tall, covered in fur and surprisingly cuddly? It’s Fiddlesticks – a musical cat who for more than 30 years has been a mainstay for Pittsburgh-area parents in introducing their children to the magic of music and the orchestra.
Once you experience one, there’s little wonder why Fiddlesticks concerts have become a uniquely Pittsburgh tradition for many families. And parents love how intentionally it builds in curiosity, togetherness, and imaginative learning around music of all genres.
Fiddlesticks (who comes out after performances to meet and greet adoring fans of all ages) hears praise from kids and grown-ups alike about how fun the productions are (especially the audience participation), the “just-right” length (only about 45 minutes), and friendliness (from both feline and human presenters). And of course, the music!
Usually, Fiddlesticks welcomes families into his home at Heinz Hall, but this summer, he and his friends in the Pittsburgh Symphony are taking a special weekend field trip to Moon High School and Mars High School on July 20 & 21 to make new friends and memories in a program called “Fiddlesticks’ Summer Adventure.”
Fiddlesticks could barely contain his excitement in rehearsals with guest vocalist Katy Williams. She said, “He has all types of surprises up his tuxedo sleeve including flowers, pool noodles, umbrellas, baseball bats, and even a make-believe bumble bee! It’ll be a blast!”
Tickets have been made available at family-friendly prices: just $10 for children and $15 for adults. Plus, all children who attend will receive an activity sheet and stickers of Fiddlesticks and his friends, created by local illustrator Emily Marko!
It’s the perfect way to experience the joy of music together as a family and to inspire more music-making in the future – maybe even joining the ranks of the Pittsburgh Symphony someday!
See you this summer!
