Maker Monday: Kids can make fun and easy marshmallow pops

We love Maker Monday projects that lead to delicious results. With this week’s project, kids can make a special and colorful dessert that the whole family can enjoy. The supplies are things you may already have in your kitchen. If not, they can be found at craft and grocery stores, as well as some dollar stores.maker monday

A note to kid makers: Please work with a parent or caregiver on this Maker Monday project and always be very careful when using tools of any kind.

Maker Monday materials you’ll need:

  • White chocolate wafers
  • Food coloring (two or more colors can be fun to play with)
  • Marshmallows
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Sprinkles (a mix of multicolored, chocolate and others add to the fun)

Maker Monday instructions:

Step 1: Insert a lollipop stick into each marshmallow.

Step 2: Place a few handfuls of white chocolate wafers into several small microwave-safe bowls. Melt the contents of each bowl in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Stir, then microwave for another 30 seconds as needed until the white chocolate is melted and smooth.

Step 3: Add just a drop or two of food coloring into each bowl (a different color for each bowl) and stir until well mixed. (Note: One drop of food coloring goes a long way!)

Step 6: Set your creations on waxed paper and let them sit, allowing the chocolate to dry.

Step 7: Once the chocolate is dry, you can serve these creative, colorful treats to your family or to friends who visit! They’re also portable (just put them in a container with wax paper), so they’re great to bring to someone else’s house as a treat.
