Maker Monday: Let’s make puffy snow paint
It’s Maker Monday time, Kidsburgh families!
The holiday season is here and Pittsburgh-region kids will soon be out playing in the snow. Here’s a fun and easy craft that lets them turn basic paint into snow, puffy clouds and more. Kids can follow the steps and photos below to add this cute, 3-D effect to their artwork.
A note to kid makers: Please work with a parent or caregiver on this Maker Monday project and always be very careful when using tools of any kind.
Maker Monday materials you’ll need:
- construction paper
- shaving cream
- glue
- a paintbrush
- markers
Maker Monday instructions:
1. Draw and color a winter scene. This could be a picture of a snowy field, your favorite park or a downtown cityscape.
2. In a bowl or cup — disposable cups are great for easy cleanup! — mix equal parts shaving cream and glue. Stir well. This will create your puffy 3-D snow “paint.”
3. Dip your brush into the puffy paint and begin putting some onto your drawing.
4. Allow at least one hour for your masterpiece to dry. The paint will get a rubbery feel once dry and will maintain the puffy, 3-D effect.
