My Favorite Pittsburgh Thing To Do With Kids: Ron Smiley
Name: Ron Smiley
Kids: Haley, 9, and Chloe, 3
Ron Smiley, a KDKA meteorologist, and his wife, Michelle Smiley, operations manager at the Thelma Lovette YMCA, live with their daughters in Mt. Lebanon.
The great outdoors has a special appeal for this active family, who moved to Pittsburgh in summer of 2015.
One of their favorite spots is nearby Dormont Park, where they often climb and play in the castle area.
“Last year, we really began exploring all the hiking trails and falls in the area,” says Smiley, who submitted proof in a photo shot in Ohiopyle State Park near Cucumber Falls. “As a Southerner used to high humidity levels, summers just seem near perfect around here. Even when it’s 90 degrees outside, the humidity level is still relatively low, so it feels great. Wonderful to be able to comfortably explore God’s creations.”
During less ideal weather, the family heads to Flight Trampoline Park and Carnegie Science Center.
Why is family time important?
“First of all, kids grow up way too fast,” Smiley says. “Unless you keep having more, those experiences are lost until you, hopefully, have grandkids. You can never take anything for granted, and I like to think I handle every day on this earth like the next day is not guaranteed. I love my girls and love every moment spent with them.”
