In the News: $25 million pledged to innovative education in Pittsburgh
Remake Learning Network, an education network of regional schools, companies and nonprofits will contribute $25 million toward innovative learning projects in Western Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported on Monday.
The combined pledge of $25 million comes from more than 100 organizations among the network’s 250 members, as reported by the Trib. The Remake Learning Network includes regional schools, libraries, museums, foundations, businesses, preschools, nonprofit groups and after-school providers. The network develops and shares digital-age teaching and project-based learning in STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, art and math.)
Reporter Natasha Lindstrom writes:
“The hefty cash infusion — hailed by White House officials during the announcement inside Google’s offices in East Liberty — signals the rapidly growing momentum of the Remake Learning Network, a local blueprint for cross-sector collaboration that is drawing national recognition.”
The article quotes Thomas Kalil of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, who called the network a model for the country.
Grable Foundation Executive Director Gregg Behr, one of the co-founders of the Remake Learning Network, cited similar efforts bubbling up in Seattle; San Diego; Redding, Calif.; Hunstville, Ala.; Charlottesville, Va.; and Orlando, Fla.
