Ready for an explosion of creativity? Episode 9 of the Kidsburgh Podcast brings you a visit to Contemporary Craft, a museum and a maker space in Lawrenceville that welcomes Pittsburghers of all ages. And our spotlight interview is a conversation with the remarkable Bill Strickland — a gifted ceramic artist, founder of Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and a MacArthur Genius Fellowship winner, who has inspired a generation of Pittsburgh kids and adults.

Also, teens from around the Pittsburgh area speak from the heart about the importance of having arts programs in school.

For parents and kids who are listening Strickland, shares about motivation and the keys to helping the whole family create and express themselves.

“If you build beautiful environments and you treat everybody as if they are an asset not a liability, after a while they begin to believe it,” Strickland says.

Our podcast is hosted by the Kidsburgh team — Melissa Rayworth, Kristine Sorensen and Yu-Ling Cheng — and recorded by SLB Radio Productions. Get all the details here.

These including inspiring conversations with Pittsburgh Steeler Cam Heyward, rocket scientist and Girls Scouts CEO Sylvia Acevedo, Beverly’s founder Megs Yunn, former Pittsburgh Pirate Travis Snider, magician Mr. Messado and astronaut Mike Fincke, who each told us about their paths to success and adventure (and the hard work they did along the way).

And don’t miss Episode 7, which included a behind-the-scenes visit with “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” producer Chris Loggins, plus details on Ohiopyle Park, and Episode 8, which included an exploration of the local gem Boyce Park and an inspiring conversation with Lauryn Williams, a multiple medal-winning Olympian (Summer and Winter Games!) and an empowering financial wellness coach. And as always, both episodes bring you honest insights from the Tea with Teens team.
