Your Weekend Guide for Apr. 11-13: From a Bunny Trolley to an Eggstravaganza, spring has sprung in Pittsburgh!

The weekend of April 11-13 is full of spring events, egg hunts, theater shows and more. It’s also the opening day for Kennywood Park, kicking off its longest season yet. Before you make any weekend plans, check out this stellar lineup:

Now through April 13: “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Byham Theater

Pittsburgh Musical Theater presents a professional production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice rock opera. Recommended for ages 10 and older. Tickets are $17.50-$73.

Friday, April 11-Sunday, April 13: Bunny Trolley at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum

At this hoppy spring event, guests will ride a restored antique trolley to visit with the Easter Bunny. Activities include a hands-on craft project, an Easter-themed scavenger hunt and a chance to admire the snuggly live rabbits raised by the Four-Leaf 4-H Club. Tickets are $22, free for ages 2 and younger. This event also runs the following weekend.

Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13: Egg Hunts at Allegheny County Parks

Bring your Easter baskets and join Peter Cottontail on an egg hunt at area parks. A $5 registration is required ($7 for non-residents) for White Oak on April 12 and for Settlers Cabin Park on April 13. Guests can choose from morning or afternoon sessions.

Saturday, April 12: Opening Day at Kennywood Park, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

The season’s opening day offers a new Eggcellent Easter Celebration. See the park spring into bloom and enjoy new entertainment and special activities, plus Tuft the Kennywood Easter Bunny. Save 50% on passes during the opening sale.

Saturday, April 12: Sensory-friendly screening of  “A Minecraft Movie” at The Lindsay Theater, 9:45 a.m.

The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center in Sewickley is hosting a sensory-friendly screening of “A Minecraft Movie” this weekend. A sensory friendly screening offers the option for families, children and adults to watch films together by lowering the volume, dimming the house lights and having a door open to restrooms and the lobby throughout the film. Staffing levels are increased to ensure a personal, unhurried cinematic experience. Tickets are $8.75.

Saturday, April 12: Kids Yoga Adventure at The Ellis School, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. 

Families are invited to pose, stretch and have fun during Kids’ Yoga Adventure at The Ellis School from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The family-focused yoga class will be led by certified children’s yoga instructor Holly Mawn from Breathe and Bloom Kids Yoga. This event is free, open to the public, and designed for kids in grades K-4. Children must attend with a parent or guardian, and advance registration is required. Find all the details here.

Saturday, April 12: 412 Day Block Party at Velum Fermentation with 412 Food Rescue, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Celebrate 10 years of this amazing local nonprofit with a giant block party, ‘Burgh style. There will be food, games, prizes, and a celebration of the good work being done in this city. Find the full lineup and more details right here.

Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13:  Eggstravaganza at The National Aviary, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Kids at the spring-themed Eggstravaganza will participate in a scavenger hunt, story time, and receive prizes to take home. Meet a skink and take a photo with the Easter Bunny. It’s a fine day to explore the habitats and free-flying birds, too. Eggstravaganza activities are included in general admission. This event runs the following weekend as well.

Sunday, April 13: Animal Friends “Tour for Life” adoption event, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Come to Animal Friends this weekend to meet some furry friends looking for a new home. The Tour for Life event is a great way to learn about pet adoption and the great work being done at Animal Friends. Find more information here.

Sunday, April 13: “Chasing Childhood” documentary at The Lindsay Theater, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

Sewickley Unplugged’s Spring Kickoff event will take place this Sunday. It will include a screening of the documentary “Chasing Childhood” from 1 p..m to 2:30 p.m. and a local youth organizations fair from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. “Chasing Childhood” is an 80-minute documentary in which psychologists, activists and leaders of the “free play” movement advocate for allowing kids to have less curated childhoods.
