Free outdoor movie season is here, Pittsburgh! It’s a great budget-friendly break for families to visit a local park on a summer night and enjoy a free screening. We’ve got the lineups for the county and city parks, and all the details for you right here:
Allegheny County Movies in the Park
Allegheny County will host free summer movie nights at various parks around the region, including Deer Lakes Park, Harrison Hills Park, Boyce Park, Hartwood Acres, North Park, Settlers Cabin, South Park, White Oak Park and Round Hill.
Families are invited to bring camp chairs or blankets and their own food and drinks to these free screenings. The fun begins 7:00 pm, and movies are scheduled to begin when it gets dark (sometime between 8:50 and 9:15 pm). Closed captioning is available upon request.
The screenings are weather-permitting, so check the county’s Facebook or X (formerly Twitter) feeds for cancellation info if the weather looks iffy.
This year’s county parks movies include “Elemental,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Trolls: Band Together” and “Chicken Run.” Get the full county schedule right here.
Pittsburgh’s Cinema in the Park
The city’s Dollar Bank Cinema in the Park series is back again this year to bring free outdoor movies to Highland Park, Riverview Park, Schenley Park/Flagstaff Hill, Schenley Plaza, Lawrenceville’s Arsenal Park, Banksville Park, Brookline Memorial Park, Grandview Park in Mt. Washington, McBride Park in Lincoln Place, Ormsby Park in South Side, and West End/Elliott Overlook in June and July.
In August, they’ll also host pop-up screenings at a variety of spots around the city.
Three engagements will offer headphones for descriptive audio services: “Wonka” (PG) June 23 at Schenley Plaza, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” (PG-13) July 20 at Riverview Park, and “The Peanut Butter Falcon” (PG-13) July 28 at Schenley Plaza.
